Reading a book and then watching the movie can be a fun way to get more out of a story. While most people will say the book is always better, this can make books more exciting for a reluctant reader. It’s also a great way to turn story time into a family activity.
Below we’ve collected a list of kids’ chapter books perfect for kids in elementary school. Choose a story to read aloud (or listen to the audiobook), then watch the movie it inspired.
Afterward, discuss how the film and book are different. Or dig deeper to get your kids talking. Here are some questions to get you started:
- Who is your favorite character? Is it the same person in both?
- Did the setting look how you imagined it? How was it different?
- Why do you think the filmmakers changed a specific part of the story?
- If you were going to turn this book into a movie, what would you do differently?
