20 LEGO Books for Kids to Inspire Creativity

Cool Creations in 35 Pieces by Sean Kenney is an older book, but a good one. In it, the author uses the same set of 35 common pieces to build a variety of creative and unusual designs like robots and bugs.

LEGO® with Dad: Creatively Awesome Brick Projects for Parents and Kids to Build Together is by Warren Nash. It includes simple builds for parents and kids to create together using basic bricks and pieces.

The LEGO Games Book: 50 Fun Brainteasers, Games, Challenges, and Puzzles! is by Tori Kosara. In it, you'll find dozens of challenges to create things like a game spinner and a tic-tac-toe board, as well as games to play in groups.

5-Minute LEGO Builds is published by the LEGO Group and includes 100 simple builds with basic bricks. It includes ideas for kids of all ages.

Genius LEGO Inventions with Bricks You Already Have is by Sarah Dees. The projects inside are primarily STEM building challenges, including robots, vehicles, gadgets, and other interactive builds for ages 8 to 12.

Build It! Volume 1, by Jennifer Kemmeter, includes instructions to create 16 unique but simple designs. The book is organized into animals, transportation, city, and ponds.

LEGO Life Hacks: 50 Cool Ideas to Make Your LEGO Bricks Work for You! is by Julia March. As the title implies, all of the projects included are things you might use around the house, like a phone speaker, a tissue box holder, and a tape dispenser. Projects are a bit more challenging and recommended age is 9 to 12.

LEGO Chain Reactions is a Klutz science/STEM activity kit. Kids can follow instructions to build wacky contraptions with ramps, funnels, and other features. You'll need some basic bricks, but the unusual pieces and balls are included with the book.

The LEGO Book of Bedtime Builds by Tori Kosara is kind of genius. It includes 8 different mini sets to build with instructions, then a cute story that goes along with it. Each story ends with some open-ended questions. This is a sweet activity to help kids wind down at the end of the day or for nap time.

The LEGO Neighborhood Book: Build Your Own LEGO Town! by Brian Lyles features step-by-step instructions for four multistory buildings. (There's also a LEGO City version). The recommended age is 10 and up.

The LEGO Ideas Book by Daniel Lipkowitz is organized into 6 chapters of classic LEGO themes including buildings, space, and kingdoms. Each page is filled with close-up photos of detailed construction projects that will inspire kids ages 7 to 15.

365 Things to Do with LEGO Bricks: Lego Fun Every Day of the Year is by Simon Hugo. With this book, your child will never run out of inspiration. It's filled with everything from pranks and games to organizers and art challenges. There aren't detailed instructions for every activity, but they're meant to be open-ended and get kids thinking creatively.

LEGO Minifigure Year by Year: A Visual History Hardcover by Gregory Farshtey and Daniel Lipkowitz was republished in 2020 with updated photos. It's less of a building guide and more of an overview of all the minifigures LEGO has created in the past 40+ years.

The LEGO Adventure Book by Megan H. Rothrock is a series of 3 books that include detailed photos for inspiration. Volume 1 is Cars, Castles, Dinosaurs & More! The second is Spaceships, Pirates, Dragons & More! And the third is Robots, Planes, Cities & More!

LEGO Micro Cities: Build Your Own Mini Metropolis! is by Jeff Friesen. Technically, it does include step-by-step photos, but we put this book in the inspiration category because the builds are quite detailed. They often use odd pieces or use them in an unexpected way so some experience is probably helpful.

LEGO Ninjago 5-Minute Stories, published by Random House, includes 9 short stories that are great for reading aloud.

LEGO DC Super Heroes: Ready for Action! by Victoria Taylor is a beginning reader about Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

Mystery on the LEGO Express by Trey King is an age-appropriate adventure based on the classic Agatha Christie story "Murder on the Orient Express."

The LEGO Star Wars Collection is a boxed set of 10 books illustrated with LEGO and published by DK. Each book is filled with facts about characters and places.

LEGO Disney Princess Enchanted Treasury by Julia March introduces several Disney princesses, illustrated with LEGO mini-dolls.
