We love classic origami folding patterns and this origami fox might be one of the easiest we’ve shared. It’s a great beginner paper-folding craft. Plus, everyone loves foxes!
You can make this as larger or small as you like. Try making a bigger one for an adult and then a few smaller ones for pups. Draw a face with eyes, nose, and whiskers for a little extra detail.
Origami paper folding tips
- Start with a perfect square of paper (unless the pattern calls for something different). Use a ruler to double-check that all sides are even.
- Use origami paper if you can. This paper is just the right weight and thickness, and it often comes cut to size.
- Young kids can learn to fold origami but may learn better by copying an adult. Sit beside your child, rather than across from them, so that they can see exactly what you’re doing.
- To make a crease, use the edge of a pencil or ruler, or your fingernail to make the crease nice and crisp.
- Traditionally origami doesn’t include glue. But you may want to add some in a few places to ensure your folds stay put, especially if the finished design is a toy.

How to make an origami fox
Supplies
- 1 square piece of origami paper or craft paper
- scissors
- ruler
- pencil
Instructions
Prep the paper by measuring and cutting it into a square. For our large fox, we started with a 12-inch square piece of paper and it was 6 inches tall when complete.
1. Fold twice to make a diamond.
First, fold the paper in half from the bottom point up to the top point. Then fold the two outer corners up to the top center point.

2. Create a right triangle.
Flip the shape over, then fold the paper in half, with the right side over the left. Then rotate so that the right angle is in the bottom left corner and the longest side faces the top right.

3. Fold over at an angle.
Fold the left side over at a slight angle, crease, then release the layers. This should space out the body of the fox.

4. Pull down the middle layer.
Pull down the middle layer until it creates a semi-flat layer to create the face. From here, adjust until it can stand. You now have a fun fox friend!

Optional: decorate.
Your origami fox is complete when you finish the last folding step, but you can draw a cute little face and details if you like.
