Shooting Star Craft

This shooting star craft is fun and easy! Cut out a paper star and decorate with ribbons and beads for a space adventure.

A shooting star is actually a meteor with a dust tail that burns brightly as it enters Earth’s atmosphere. You might see one in the night sky any time or catch a whole bunch during a meteor shower.

They usually burn up completely, but if a meteor makes it all the way to the surface, it’s called a meteorite.

Make your own shooting stars with this fun kids’ craft idea. All you need are paper, ribbon, and beads. You can use any colors, decorate the star body, or even add some glitter!

How to make a shooting star

Supplies

• craft paper
• ribbons
• pony beads
• pencil
• ruler
• scissors
• hole punch
• glue stick

Instructions

1. Draw and cut 2 stars.

Star by drawing a star on the back of a piece of craft paper. You can freehand it, use a rule as a guide, or trace a star if you have one. Ours is about 5 inches across.

Cut out the star with scissors, then trace that star to make a second one that’s the same. Glue the 2 stars with the backs together. Let the glue dry a few minutes.

2. Punch holes.

Use a single hole punch to make 5 holes along the bottom of the star.

3. Thread ribbons.

Cut 5 long pieces of ribbon. Ours are about 12 inches or so, but they don’t all have to be the same. Fold the ribbon in half and loop one through each hole.

4. Add beads.

Thread pony beads onto some of the ribbons. Slide them up and down at different levels, then tie a double knot to keep the beads from sliding off.

You can add more embellishments if you like, or decorate with other art supplies. The sky’s the limit for creativity!
